being a dad.

I have a bit of a different outlook on life and kids since Parker has become a reality.
Shootin’ the breeze with a couple of different people recently, I realized I used to be just like them. Things are different now. What I heard was the good ‘ole standby “we’ve been thinking about kids, but [...]

week 35.

We’re getting pretty close now. We aced our “newbie” birthing class, have the hospital bag packed, the car seat is in, the bassinet is set up, Parker’s room is almost painted, and we’re still reading books like fanatics. Wish us luck! He could be here any day now. Yikes.

Parker’s second ultrasound (since we weren’t able to finish everything last week) went well today. You should be able to view the Quicktime video above that they recorded for us. Pretty neat technology; we were in an out in under a half-hour, with a DVD in-hand. It’s nice when complex computer stuff actually [...]

parker.

We had our ultrasound today and… it’s a boy! Please welcome Parker Lee VanAlstyne to the family!
The ultrasound was a strange experience. It’s confusing, disconcerting, and somewhat overwhelming to watch a sound-driven tool dissect our tiny boy into real-time images on a monitor. I don’t have much experience with medical equipment as it is, so [...]
