I shot these images as one of the most intense storms I’ve ever witnessed was building over my neighborhood. The storm produced about 0.5″ sized hail here in Wellington, spawned four severe thunderstorm warnings, and two tornado warning. Apparently, a tornado did touch down just east of Fort Collins; FC also got 5″ of hail accumulation. The most impressive part of the storm was the electrical extravaganza it put out for almost two hours, and far longer as it moved east to Weld County. It was undoubtedly the most intense electrical storm I’ve seen. The lightning was non-stop. My neighbors landscape lighting kept turning off/on as the sustained brightness of the lightning was tricking the light sensor into thinking it was daylight.

These shots are from the front and back of my house in Wellington, CO as the storm built in the warm glow of the setting sun.

Wow, J, these are incredible! Was everything really that color, or did you use some sort of filter?

spectacular (and scarey) cloud movement – so glad you were able to get some shots Justin. That was about the most intense storm we’ve had in awhile.
