Me and yogurt cups don’t get along. Almost every time I peel open that thick foil top, a blurb of yogurt comes belching out and either onto my shirt or the countertop.
Today, having recently turned 27, I tried to be older and wiser, and peeled the lid with slow precision. No blurb– success! In celebrating my winning opener, I hastily dropped the defeated foil peel into the waiting trash can. But it didn’t quite make it there. The curl of the foil stuck to my finger on release, casting it off course and sliding down the outside of the can, followed by a satisfying, face-down plop on the floor. Fine, I admitted defeat, and got out the paper towels and spray cleaner. The yogurt wasn’t through with me yet though. A rogue blurb jumped ship while pouring it into a bowl (to mix with granola). It too created as much collateral damage as possible, with the blurb strategically splitting mid-air so that one could splat the counter and the other could run down the outside of my bowl, simultaneously.
The yogurt had won. But I still ate it in the end.

It’s great how amusing an ordinary event (and the non-harmful misfortune of others) can be.
