wells fargo.

I beg you. Whatever you do, DO NOT bank with Wells Fargo. I have my business accounts, personal joint accounts, and home mortgage with them. I regret opening all of them except the mortgage. The checking accounts have been nothing but headache after headache. Currently, they are holding a very large business deposit of mine for two weeks before they clear it. Two weeks! It should be illegal. Previous problems have ranged from mysterious disappearances of transfers between accounts, random disappearance and reappearance of both deposits and debits, random deposit holds, charges not going through, and my personal favorite, the spending limit cap on how much I can spend from my own checking account.

Go in and talk to Jacob at the Harmony Road location. The first time I deposited a check at that branch (I usually deposited at Old Town or Horsetooth locations), I had a teller place a hold on one of my checks once; it was ridiculous. When I spoke to him (over the phone no less), he looked up my account status and the fact that I’d deposited PLENTY of good checks from the same client and the hold was totally unnecessary. He immediately removed the hold and apologized for the inconveniences to me.

You do all your business with them, and they have an obligation to SERVE YOUR NEEDS. It’s a valid check, your account history will show that all checks you’ve deposited are valid checks, etc. Again, you are their customer. You chose them, and they have to serve your needs. Remind them of your value as a customer–homeowner, business, personal, etc. Don’t take no for an answer.

Sorry you’re having so many headaches. Youch!

All the other issues you have with them sound wild; Ryan and I have had no problems like that at all.

We went round and round with supervisors from Greeley and Fort Collins. The person we were dealing with stopped calling and wouldn’t return messages, so we marched down to the Horsetooth branch and got it straightened out (hopefully).

They do have an obligation to serve my needs, but their bloated rules and regulations and “sorry, I can’t help you with that” is just too much for me. Unfortunately, I’ve reminded them one too many times about how valueable my business is to them; so much so that I have to remind myself why I bank there. I’ve run out of excuses and they’ve run out of chances. They lost our business. My next deposit will go with another bank.

You’ll have to let me know if you’re happier with the service at your new bank.

To add insult to injury… a check I had written to our landscaper was going to bounce due to the aforementioned 2-week hold by Wells Fargo. So once we got my check cleared, I gave him cash to make up for the inconvenience. Wells Fargo bounced the check I had written him, charged me the $34 insufficient funds fee. However, my landscaper’s bank never reported it as bounced. To make sure it wouldn’t go through anyway (since I had now given him cash), I transfered all of the money out of that account into our personal checking account. What do I find this morning? Wells Fargo went ahead and cleared that check anyway, leaving me with a negative couple thousand dollar balance in that account. Bastards!
