Earlier this last year, LG sponsored the National Texting Championship at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I didn’t know such an event or title existed, but it’s not surprising given how popular texting has become. Imagine 300 teens and twenty-somethings all texting the same phrase that pops up on the event monitor, the first ones to text it, without spelling errors, back to a given number move to the next round. Miss a letter and you’re out. The reigning texting champ before the event was a 21-year-old from LA. She was handily beaten by a 13-year-old girl after she misspelled “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” in the final round. The winner walked away with $25-large and bragging rights to all her texting buddies. So much for spelling bees.

What a funny sign of the times. The lightening fast speed of texting makes my 90WPM on the keyboard pale in comparison.
