Capitalism has found the latest niche to take advantage of America’s lust for everything without taking responsibility for anything.
FlexPetz is the first commercial business that will rent you a dog for a few hours or up to a week. Based in San Diego, the company is doing so well that it open a second location in Los Angeles, and is opening two more branches in San Francisco and New York. I guess all the primmed elite who like the idea of a pet, but can’t possibly fit it in with their manicures and yoga classes, can finally strut a furry friend around their gated neighborhood. The company founders cite it as a win-win for pets who would otherwise be homeless or euthanized. I hate when people try to make themselves seem like world-do-gooders when it’s really all about the money and themselves (cough cough bono cough… excuse me). Charging $700 in annual fees, plus up to $40 per day… it’s not about the good of the dogs.
You can be sure that only cutest labs, westies, and weimaraners make the cut to have the chance to be rented on Park Ave. I might go so far as to say I bet most of these dogs probably aren’t even shelter rescues; it would ruin the whole chic motif to be seen with a common mongrel.

Yucky, sad and the worst thing for a dog to be put through. It’s basically a foster dog going from family to family without ever having a home.

Wouldn’t be so bad if it was “rent to own.” At least then the pets might have a chance of finding a permanent home.

I love the rent to own idea.
