My apologies for the lack of any real postings in the last few weeks. I had company staying with me for 2 weeks, and now, as many of you know, I’m down in New Orleans for 10 days.

New Orleans has been a mix of good and bad. First and foremost (for me anyway) is that it’s a fantastic city to photograph. I could photograph every day all day and never run out of subject matter. There is so much texture, a huge variety of people, beautiful architecture, and events going on. The infamous Bourbon Street (the heart of Mardi Gras) was fascinating the first day or two, but now it has become a disgusting, trash-caked street filled with hordes of drunken tourists and creepy locals trying to rip you off. It got old fast; one night on the town was enough for me. We got to the 9th Ward, one of the hard hit areas from Katrina. It was saddening to see the sheer number of destroyed homes, and the shocking number of people apparently still inhabiting some of the horrid shacks. The Garden District was lovely with the huge houses, lush gardens, and high wrought-iron fences to keep the riffraff out.

There will be much more to follow, but I wanted to give y’all an update and post a few images. I’ve already taken over 1,000 images, so you can be sure to see more.

I love the first pic, May I ask what kind of lens do you use?

Thanks Alex. I shoot with a Canon 5D body and my main lens is usually the Canon 24-70mm f2.8L; though some of the nighttime shots seen here and coming soon were shot with my super cheap Canon 50mm f1.8.
