You guys are going to love this one.

For anyone at all interested in visual artistry, you must see Mirrormask. It is written by Neil Gaiman, an accomplished sci-fi/fantasy writer (American Gods is possibly the best book I’ve ever read) and directed by Dave McKean. It is the story of Helena, a 14 year old girl who finds herself in a strange world with two kingdoms. She has to find a way to thwart the queen of Darkness, and wake the queen of Light, who is asleep, snow-white style. Then she can get back to her own world.

Even the scenes shot in the “real world” give the feeling that you are looking at reality through the eyes of someone with an overactive imagination. It is compelling to look at. The dialogue is witty, and the actress who plays Helena is extremely good for someone so young. Definitely check it out if your eyes are looking for something different to occupy themselves. And while you’re at it, check out Neil Gaiman. Seriously. Best book ever.
