in the closet.

This. Is amazing.

in the closet.I’m sure most of you are familiar with R. Kelly, either from his inspirational, “I Believe I Can Fly,” or perhaps from his media-attracting penchant for peeing on minors. However, a little-known fact about R. is that he is an innovator in the field of music videos. He set out to make a feature-length music video, and make one he did. In 2005, he released “Trapped in a Closet,” a 40 minute hip-hop opera, or as R. likes to call it “Hip-Hopera,” a movement in music that he has pioneered. Alone.

This gem of musical brilliance is…well, frankly beyond words. Wikipedia has a detailed plot outline and character list, but it pales in comparison to actually watching the 12 chapters. Yes. 12 chapters. Each one more mesmerizing than the last, and each ending with it’s own cliffhanger. And who, you ask, can pack 11 cliffhangers in 40 minutes? R. Kelly can!

And then there are all of the…tributes…that were done about it. But that is another dailies post all together.

All poking fun aside, he did manage to do something that had never been done before. He took a chance, and really believes in this piece of artistic innovation. And artistic innovation is what this site is about. So here’s to you, R. Kelly, and your new genre of train wreck.
